1.1: Virtual Student Foreign Service Create Virtual Student Foreign Service Internships to harness the energy of a rising generation of citizen diplomats. Other Information: The Department of State has designated the Virtual Student Foreign Service (VSFS) Program as a flagship initiative. The VSFS was announced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on May 13, 2009 at New York University’s commencement. As Secretary Clinton said: “…over the next year the State Department will be creating Virtual Student Foreign Service Internships to harness the energy of a rising generation of citizen diplomats. Working from college and university campuses, American students will partner with our embassies abroad to conduct digital diplomacy that reflects the realities of the networked world." The VSFS Program was established on a pilot basis during the summer of 2009 and now includes 37 diplomatic posts and approximately 40 students. Stakeholder(s): Indicator(s):
