Update and streamline the Federal Information Security Management Act. Other Information: The first thing the government can do is get its own house in order. One needed step is to update and streamline the Federal Information Security Management Act. FISMA requires federal agencies to secure their information systems, and was a law ahead of its time when it was enacted in 2002. Recognizing that security is a process, it allowed organizations to assess their own risks and develop plans to address these risks with guidance from the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Department of Homeland Security.
