  • Mission [1]
    • The Black Hills National Forest Advisory Board (the Board) was specifically chartered to advise the Forest Supervisor on management intentions and plans to carry out the Forest Service's mission on the Black Hills National Forest to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the Nation's forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations. The Board helps the Forest Supervisor understand community sentiment, gives viewpoints representing a wide range of community expertise, and provides specific recommendations concerning activities to effect positive management outcomes on issues like forest health, recreation, insects and noxious weeds, travel management, conversion of open space to other uses, and fuel reduction. Since either intent or law and regulation requiring and encouraging public participation guide most of our key program areas, the Board provides an important first look at public reaction to Agency plans and processes.
