APPLIED SCIENCES NYC: NYU/NYU-POLY CENTER FOR URBAN SCIENCE AND PROGRESS -- Building on the success of the initial Cornell-Technion announcement, in April 2012, Mayor Bloomberg announced the NYU Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP), to be located in Downtown Brooklyn, following an agreement among the City, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and a consortium of top institution and technology companies. The Center for Urban Science and Progress will be a partnership of top global institution, led by NYU and NYU-Poly, and will focus on research and technology development that addresses urban challenges such as infrastructure, technology integration, energy efficiency, transportation congestion, public safety and public health. Other highly-regarded members of the consortium include: the City University of New York, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Toronto, University of Warwick, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and technology leaders IBM and Cisco. The school will seek to apply math and science to better the City of New York and serve as an urban innovation model for the world.
