2: Engineering and the Environment Examine engineering and technical aspects of environmental issues, such as alternative fuels, energy sources and pollution, and impacts of megacities. Other Information: Engineering and the natural environment are inexorably linked. In the past, the engineering profession has often been associated with causing environmental harm, usually in relation to large-scale infrastructure projects. However, this paradigm no longer holds. Today, the engineering profession is at the forefront in efforts to mitigate negative environmental impacts, and is providing policy and technical guidance to government, the private sector, and the public on ways to create a more environmentally sustainable future.
