The FTC targets its education efforts to give consumers the information they need to protect themselves from injury and to
explain to businesses how to comply with applicable laws. An educated consumer and business community is a first line of defense
against fraud and deception. Our Strategy: Consumer and business education serves as the first line of defense against fraud,
deception, and unfair practices. Most of the FTC’s law enforcement initiatives include a consumer and/or business education
component aimed at preventing consumer injury and unlawful business practices, and mitigating financial losses. from time
to time, the agency conducts preemptive consumer and business education campaigns to raise awareness of new or emerging marketplace
issues that have the potential to cause harm. The agency creatively uses new technologies and private and public partnerships
to reach new and under-served audiences, particularly those who may not seek information directly from the FTC. The FTC will
continue to publicize its consumer complaint and identity theft website addresses and toll-free numbers in an ongoing effort
to increase public awareness of its activities and inform the public of the ways to contact
