- Mission [1]
- ETTAC is a private-sector advisory committee that was created by Congress to advise the Federal Government on policies and
programs to expand U.S. exports of environmental goods and services. The industry the Committee represents is made up of more
than 117,000 revenue-generating organizations that employ nearly 2 million people. Under the Jobs Through Trade Expansion
Act, Congress authorized the creation of the Environmental Technologies Trade Advisory Committee to provide advice to the
Department of Commerce and other federal agencies on how government policies and practices affect the export of U.S. environmental
products and services. In FY 2009-2010, ITA led USG efforts to aggregate the views and recommendations of representatives of
the environmental technologies industries, primarily through the ETTAC, synthesized those views and recommendations into a
cohesive policy recommendation, and disseminated to key decision-makers and trade policy negotiators. Through these efforts,
the USG achieved consensus on an abbreviated definition of environmental goods in the WTO, and set the stage for an interim
agreement to be reached in the near term.
