Performance Measure: Maximize the economic impact of research and development at Utah’s institutions of higher learning. The Utah Centers of Excellence Program supports selected research programs at Utah's universities to encourage the commercialization of the resulting technologies. Capitalizing on the Olympic Effort: Business development activity during the Torch Run and the 2002 Olympic Winter Games was intense. The impacts on future economic development included large-scale business exposure to what Utah has to offer. These included attendance at the following: Torch Run Business Reception attendance - 3,000 International Country House Business Receptions - 18,385 Devereaux House Business Club Attendance - 8,000 A number of follow-up business development efforts are currently being pursued including a series of Governor-led domestic and international Trade Missions. These efforts must be monitored long-term. For future years, follow-up information will be developed and tracked.
