The Department is committed to the provisions of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act as well as the Americans with Disabilities
Act. The Department is actively committed to ensuring that our employees and members of the public have equal access in the
use of electronic and information technology. The OCIO launched an initiative to test the Department’s public websites for
Section 508 and has set a minimum 90% accessibility metric for 2010. The OCIO plan to test intranet sites and applications
will begin in the next few months. The OCIO partnered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to extend its Blanket Purchase
Agreement for accessibility documents to all bureaus and offices. The IRS has long incorporated Section 508 criteria in its
system development life cycle methodology. Accessibility to the Department’s information and data by employees and the public
contributes to the principles of the Open Government Directive.
