Other Information:

The newly introduced Children and Young People Act 2008 is a significant legal reform relating to children and young people. The best interests of children and young people is the paramount consideration underpinning a range of reforms in the areas of care and protection, youth justice, the regulation of child care services, and employment laws for children and young people in the Territory. Preparation for implementation is under way, with a focus on early intervention and prevention strategies and integrated responses to meet the diverse needs of our children, young people and their families. The Act demonstrates the ACT Government’s continued focus on the interests, rights and well-being of children and young people.
