Service planning for the ACT’s new prison, the Alexander Maconochie Centre, continues the emphasis on rehabilitation. As Australia’s first prison designed and operating on human rights principles, the centre has developed a throughcare model of case management. This will provide offender management encompassing training, education, rehabilitation and access to high-quality health services. It will also provide work experience within custodial and community environments, and establish post-release community support networks for offenders and their families through a comprehensive reintegration plan.
