In May, President Obama announced a groundbreaking national autos program that put us on a path to adopting uniform Federal standards to regulate both fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions. The result will be a projected reduction in oil consumption of approximately 1.8 billion barrels over the life of the program and a projected total reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 950 million metric tons. This landmark policy will spark innovation in more fuel-efficient vehicles, reduce pollution, and promote energy security.
