10.4: Program Controls

Strengthen program controls

Other Information:

To address long-standing management control weaknesses—including those in the above-discussed FHA single-family and low-income rental assistance programs—HUD must improve its human capital and information technology resource management. With the help of its new workforce evaluation tools and a rethinking of work processes and assignments, staff and workload will be realigned to bolster critical oversight and analysis functions. Information systems and controls will be strengthened through investments in integrated financial systems and new performance reporting systems. The Expected Results—HUD will eliminate the specific control weaknesses and inefficiencies that have caused GAO to place its major programs on the high risk list, with the goal of removing all HUD programs from that list by 2005 and improving the lives of the people and communities HUD was created to serve.
