Documents/IIST/2: Strategic Goals/2.5: Academic Interaction

2.5: Academic Interaction

Establish interaction among academic staff and exploit potential synergies

Other Information:

Measures: Number of joint projects, number of joint publications. Research activities within UNU-IIST have generally been conducted within programs, with little interaction. A stimulating academic environment requires vigorous and open exchange of ideas. There are many potentially fruitful areas for interaction among the programs described in this strategy document. Even if the institute significantly increases in size, gaining recognition will require much greater interaction among academic staff. Collaboration among programs in research, education, and capacity building will be strongly encouraged through mechanisms such as seed funds and matching funds. Activities involving all academic staff, such as symposia, will be organized. Joint meetings will be held frequently. Ability to collaborate will be considered in hiring and contract renewal.
