Measures: strategic partners, twin institutes. The small size of UNU-IIST makes networking essential to achieving impact. While the institute currently has a number of valuable collaborations based on the research of individual staff members, their uncoordinated nature limits the extent to which they support the institute‟s strategic aims. UNU-IIST will seek to develop partnerships with institutions in a way that furthers the institute‟s strategic goals. Notably, this will include the establishment of twin institutes as defined in the UNU strategic plan. Twins will be explored in more developed and less developed countries, including the USA, China, and Africa. Potential twins and other partners should be recognized for the high quality of their activities within their particular context, should complement UNU-IIST resources so as to create a synergistic relationship, should increase the reach of UNU-IIST programs, and should open new funding opportunities.
