Other Information:

Measures: policy briefs produced, references to UNU-IIST work in policy papers, reference to UNU-IIST work in policy speeches, invitations to participate in high-level policy meetings. UNU-IIST is well positioned to provide various forms of support to policy-making activities. Through its mandate to incubate innovative applications of ICT for sustainable development and through its own research, UNU-IIST will develop significant capacity in this area, becoming a valuable source of expertise for policy makers. Furthermore, the great emphasis placed by the UN and many governments on evidence-based approaches to policy making necessitates gathering and processing of large amounts of data. UNU-IIST will provide assistance in the design and deployment of appropriate platforms for data collection and analysis, systems for information dissemination, policy decision support systems, and formal tools and techniques for describing and validating complex policies. Realizing this potential role will require the institute to become more involved with national governments and with the UN policy agenda.
