Documents/HUD/4: Equal Opportunity Housing/D1: Discrimination Complaints

D1: Discrimination Complaints

Ensure access to a fair and effective administrative process to investigate and resolve complaints of discrimination.

Other Information:

HUD is responsible for enforcement of the Fair Housing Act and for ensuring that HUD programs promote fair housing and comply with civil rights laws. The Fair Housing Act makes it unlawful to discriminate in housing against persons based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or familial status. The Department investigates all complaints filed by individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination in housing. Resolving these complaints on a timely basis reflects HUD’s commitment to continuing and improving this important aspect of its work. In recent years, HUD has made significant strides in reducing its inventory of “aged cases” and is now focused on increasing the number of cases processed within 100 days, the statutory threshold for timeliness.
