The intention of the CLIA statute and its implementing regulations is to ensure the quality and reliability of medical tests
performed by clinical laboratories throughout the Nation. The Committee’s advice and recommendations relative to the CLIA
program are consistent with and supportive of CDC’s mission to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling
disease, injury, and disability.
