The FBI will be able to accomplish its mission and support its priorities not only through the collection and examination of evidence, but also through continual state-of-the-art forensic science research, as well as training counterparts throughout the professional community. It is imperative that constant improvements in forensic analysis be sought through a robust research and development program and that these improvements can be quickly deployed to support the entire forensic community. Priority Actions: Establish joint partnerships with state and local laboratories for research and development. Work with the National Academy of Sciences regarding a review of bullet lead analysis.
