    • The CASAC primarily supports EPA's Goal 1 - Clean Air and Global Climate Change. The CASAC is required by statute (i.e., the Clean Air Act Amendments ([CAAA] of 1977 [P.L. 95-95]) to review the scientific criteria and the NAAQS for the six criteria air pollutants, and to provide independent scientific advice to the Agency as required by the CAAA and upon request from EPA. In fiscal year 2011, the CASAC produced ten (10) advisory, letter reports, and consultations to the EPA Administrator in the following subject areas: (1) Policy Assessment for the Review of the Secondary National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for Oxides of Nitrogen and Oxides of Sulfur; (2) EPA’s Integrated Science Assessment for Ozone and Related Photochemical Oxidants; (3) EPA’s White Paper, “Approach for the Development of a New Federal Reference Method (FRM) for Lead in Total Suspended Particulates (Pb-TSP)”; (4) Reconsideration of the 2008 Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards; (5) EPA’s Draft Integrated Review Plan for the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Lead’ (6) EPA’s Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards: Scope and Methods Plan for Health Risk and Exposure Assessment Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards: Scope and Methods Plan for Welfare Risk and Exposure Assessment; (7) EPA Draft Documents on Monitoring and Methods for Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) and Sulfur (SOx); (8) Policy Assessment for the Review of the Secondary National Ambient Air Quality Standard for NOx and SOx: Second Draft; (9) Near-road Guidance Document – Outline” and “Near-road Monitoring Pilot Study Objectives and Approach”; and (10) Review of EPA's Photochemical Assessment Monitoring Stations (PAMS) Network Re-engineering project.
