1: Recommandations
The OESC was chartered on February 8, 2011, to advise the Secretary of the Interior, through the BOEMRE Director, on a variety
of issues related to ocean energy safety. Coordination with stakeholders is essential to the work of BOEMRE. Since its inception,
BOEMRE has been committed to working with its constituencies. The expertise and counsel of the OESC will provide top level
decisionmakers with information and recommendations to support informed decisions impacting offshore regulatory programs,
policies, and operations, including short and long range plans that can be broad in scope, sensitive in nature and highly
technically. Objectives may conflict due to changes in legislative or regulatory guidelines. There are no other existing committees
that serve this function. While the issues the OESC addresses are long-term, complex topics, they are also focused and mission
driven. Furthermore, other means of receiving public input, such as public hearings do not provide the thoughtful, consensus-based
input that is sought from this Committee.
