1.1.2: The Infinite Economy

Frame the landscape of economic change that will define the next industrial age.

Other Information:

The Infinite Economy is the potential for a new material reality, one that emerges from the co-evolution of a broad landscape of technological, social, and philosophic changes. Today the world is confronting incredible technical possibilities at the same time as it is confronting widespread concerns about the "sustainability" of its current political economy. The Infinite Economy is part of VFS' economic futures work and it frames the very wide-ranging landscape of economic change that will define the next industrial age... The two most dominant narratives about the future of the economy are polar opposites: one forecasts that humanity's runaway consumption is accelerating the world towards an economic collapse, while the other anticipates that human ingenuity will usher in a new industrial age. The Infinite Economy definitely falls closer to the latter, but it suggests that while this positive future is likely, it is a trajectory that can fail without sufficient cultural change.
