- The Committee supports VA's mission and strategic plan by assessing current scientific literature and available research on
certain environmental hazards to determine whether those hazards, when encountered by military service personnel, may produce
chronic diseases or disabilities after those personnel leave active military service. These assessments may lead to improvements
in VA's disability compensation system by expanding the official list of presumptive disabilities.
