To ensure that all Canberrans enjoy the benefits of living in a community that is safe, socially inclusive and respectful of human rights, that all Canberrans are able to fully participate in community life and that the most vulnerable in our community are respected and supported.

Through Building Our Community: The Canberra Social Plan, the ACT Government has a vision of Canberra becoming a place where all people reach their potential, make a contribution and share the benefits of our community. Ensuring our community is both fair and safe is crucial in achieving that vision and accordingly the ACT Government has developed and implemented strategies to promote respect for human rights, social cohesion, social inclusion, equity of opportunity, access to justice, and physical safety. Since the launch of both the 2004 Canberra Plan and Building Our Community: The Canberra Social Plan, there has been substantial progress in meeting the visions of both plans. The ACT Government remains committed to these visions and, through partnerships with the community and the business sector, will continue to work towards their fulfilment.
