Limitation of climate change

Other Information:

Limiting climate change is a high priority environmental issue. Limiting the increase in the greenhouse effect due to human activities is a way of taking responsibility for the environment of our children. One great challenge is to reduce emissions of climate-changing gases, which, despite the efforts made so far, are still high in Sweden compared with the average per capita levels that are sustainable. Objectives: The objective of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is to achieve stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. Together with other countries, Sweden is responsible for seeing to that the global objective can be achieved. Sweden’s emissions of greenhouse gases, as a mean value for the period 2008 – 2012, must be at least 4 per cent lower than its emissions in 1990. By 2050 Sweden’s total emissions should be lower than 4.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents per capita per year, and should subsequently be reduced still further.
