The supervisor should make sure the description of the new work is understood by asking the employee to play back the description of the new work as he understands it. An inaccurate playback cues the supervisor to provide more information. The supervisor also tests for employee agreement to do the work the new way. While an employee's nod of the head may be enough for some cases, a handshake over the new work will be a far more robust indicator of agreement .
