- The NSF mission is set out in the NSF Act of 1950 that authorizes and directs the NSF to initiate and support: basic scientific
research and research fundamental to the engineering process; and science and engineering education programs at all levels
in all fields of science and engineering. The MPS Advisory Committee provides advice to senior management within the Mathematical
and Physical Sciences on activities related to the NSF strategic plan.
