- The NSF mission is set out in the NSF Act of 1950 authorizes and directs the Agency to initiate and support: basic research
fundamental to the engineering process; and science and engineering education programs at all levels and in all fields of
science and engineering. The GEO AC provides oversigh of overall program management and performance. AC/GEO provides advice
to the Director of the National Science Foundation regarding general issues relating to the operation and management of the
Foundation, particularly with regard to large facilities.
