    • The mission of the National Endowment for the Arts is "To advance artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation for the benefit of individuals and communities." The Arts Endowment carries out this mission primarily by awarding grants that address its major goals: 1) The creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence; 2) To engage the public with diverse and excellent art; 3) To promote public knowledge and understanding about thecontributions of the arts. The Arts Endowment is committed to serving the American people through the fair and responsible awarding of grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements. The agency's management goal is "To enable the NEA mission through organizational excellence." Advisory panel meetings provide the peer review that is the foundation for ensuring that the Endowment supports projects of artistic excellence and artistic merit, as specified in the agency's legislation. Through its recommendations for funding and discussion of policy issues affecting the National Endowment for the Arts, the Arts Advisory Panel directly supports the mission and strategic plan of the Arts Endowment.
