  • Mission [1]
    • Created by Executive Order first in 1982, The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities helps to incorporate the arts and humanities into White House objectives. Its current foci are on arts education, international cultural dialogue, and the creative economy. These areas of emphasis are separate from, yet also applicable within, the National Endowment for the Arts’ 2011 mission, including its ArtWorks initiative and its goals: the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence; to engage the public with diverse and excellent art; and to promote public knowledge and understanding about the contributions of the arts. In carrying out its objectives, the Committee bridges federal agencies and the private sector to recognize cultural excellence, access, and participation; engages in research and recognition programs that underscore the civic, social, educational, and historical value of the arts; initiates special projects that celebrate the spirit of our nation and its relationship to other nations; and stimulates private funding for these activities. The Committee’s strategies focus its resources in five areas: youth arts and humanities learning; preservation; the creative economy; expanding international cultural relations; and special projects in association with the White House.
