4: Credibility
Going beyond infrastructure: building the credibility of the field Other Information:
As noted above in the discussion of sustainability, the strategic planning process underscored a potential threat to the dialogue
and deliberation community and to NCDD: a fear of an overly internal focus. NCDD formed to bring together the various streams
of practice (conflict resolution, deliberative democracy, etc.) that center their work around the practices of dialogue and
deliberation, but it’s time to look beyond the choir. We need to find ways to connect with the potential users and beneficiaries
of dialogue and deliberation. We hope to both help meet their growing demand for this work and to help increase that demand
by raising awareness of these processes. And we hope to equip citizens, decision-makers, teachers, and others with the tools,
resources, and connections they need to get started in this work.
