The Committee advises and makes recommendations to the Director, NIAID, and the Director, DAIDS, in all areas of biomedical
research on HIV infection and AIDS related to the mission of DAIDS, including pathogenesis, natural history and transmission
of HIV disease, and those efforts which support progress in its detection, treatment, and prevention. The Committee provides
broad scientific, programmatic, and budgetary advice on all aspects of HIV-related research supported by NIAID, including
fundamental basic and clinical research, discovery and development of vaccines and other preventative interventions, and training
of researchers in these activities. This includes the review of progress and productivity of ongoing efforts, assistance in
identifying critical gaps/obstacles to progress, and approval of concepts for new initiatives.
