During the reporting period, the committee continued 1) to increase its efforts in enhancing public input into the NIH's research
agenda; 2) to enhance the transparency and awareness of the NIH research priority setting process to the public; 3) to initiate
plans and efforts on the idea of educating scientists about the role of the public in the research process; 4) to interact
with the Advisory Committee to the Director, NIH, in discussing initiatives of importance to the NIH and the community it
serves; 5) to receive updates from the Office of the Director and various Institute and Center efforts how they are working
to enhance public understanding of the research process and increase public participation in the research enterprise; and
6) to explore new ways to enhance NIH visibility among the general public through communications efforts; and 7) to identify
ways to encourage researchers to involve the public in research, with an emphasis on community engagement.
