- The primary role of the MEDCAC is to provide independent expert scientific advice to CMS in its evaluation of Medicare coverage
and assist CMS in making sound decisions based upon the reasoned application of good science. The MEDCAC process encourages
public interaction with CMS in gathering information that is utilized in arriving at Medicare coverage decisions, which supports
CMS'goal of making the Medicare coverage decision process more open, participatory, and understandable to the public.
