| Description |
For a variety of its own reasons not applicable to the Committee, the agency may implement all/most of the recommendations,
but few times recommendations are not implemented.
|
Since the beginning of the ACWS, approximately 90% of the Committee's recommendations were fully implemented by the Agency.
For example, SAMHSA is ensuring the cultural competency perspective into all of its strategic initiatives. SAMHSA is implementing
a treatment protocol for women with specific input from committee members. SAMHSA has sought members' expertise in its development
of gender-specific trauma care services. SAMHSA Staff collaborated with the Center for Medicaid Services (CMS), encouraging
States to offer through their Medicaid program, a comprehensive substance abuse and mental health benefit package for all
children and adolescents. SAMHSA assured the Committee that this resolution will be used to inform staff at both CMS and the
Department about the importance of achieving behavioral health parity with physical health in the Medicaid programs and the
Children's Health Insurance Plan (CHIP). In addition, the Committee recommended that SAMHSA outline appropriate methods to
encourage Federal, State, private and public agencies to address the needs of children of substance-abusing parents. This
recommendation supported SAMHSA's interest in expanding knowledge to those outside the substance abuse and mental health services
arena on issues regarding women, their children and Medicaid.
