Between FY 1994 through 2011, the ACWS produced approximately 50 recommendations. During FY 2011, members recommended the
following: (a)continued efforts to address clinician resistance to discussion of trauma-oriented information and increased
efforts to educate people who screen for trauma; (b)research on the intersection of gender and race, ethnicity, and culture
in terms of efficacy of the treatment protocol; (c)re-examining the demographic distribution of previously collected information,
including the Pacific Island region in future surveys, and expanding questions to collect data on why young people commit
suicide;(d)partner with educational systems, as well as federal, state, and local governments, to share resources and knowledge;
(e)the need to address prevention differently for males and females, and the need to expand the evidence based for gender-specific
treatment models; (f)strategies for spreading health messages, including partnering with the entertainment industry, utilizing
social media, and placing messages in places that women congregate; (g)that SAMHSA take steps to end the disproportionate
representation of women of color in prisons; (h)reimburse other countries for services provided to military families; (i)improve
community-based residential services for mothers and children; (j) and that SAMHSA set-aside part of the mental health block
grant for women, especially those who are pregnant or members of a minority group.
