The Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee (RAC) reviewed a total of 56 gene transfer protocols in FY11 and selected 16 protocols
for in-depth review and public discussion based on novel scientific, medical, ethical or social considerations. A total of
82 recommendations were made. Throughout FY 2011, RAC discussed and reviewed experiments involving Recombinant DNA Molecules.
In December 2010, the addition to Appendix I of the NIH Guidelines of a new host vector system for K. lactis was discussed.
In June 2011, recommendations regarding biocontainment for experiments using a defective Lassa virus was under review. In
September 2011, RAC made recommendations proposing amendments to Section III-E-1 and Appendix B of the NIH Guidelines for
Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules.
