Comply with the new policies for personal identification and put in place contract vehicles to enable other agencies to also comply.

Other Information:

HSPD-12 (Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12) requires all Federal agencies to use a standard, interoperable Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card for secure access to government buildings and computer networks. The E-Authentication Initiative, led by GSA, helps Federal agencies minimize security and privacy risks associated with online identity management. Online identity management enables secure business transactions and the exchange of information over the Internet by providing trusted electronic credentials and interoperable technology products and services. These tools ensure, for example, that a citizen communicating online really is who he or she claims to be. E-Authentication is absolutely necessary to protect citizens who need to transmit vital information to the government via the web and to conduct business with the government electronically. The E-Authentication infrastructure makes the HSPD-12 card more useful. Further, GSA is working to meet the requirements of HSPD-12; establish contracts and deliver identity management products, services, and support; and establish contracts for others to use.
