Description Unspecified The committee made numerous suggestions and influenced the FDIC's thinking on a number of policy matters. No recommendations or reports have been formally conveyed by the Committee to the FDIC, but the Committee serves as an effective vehicle for the FDIC to gain insight into the role and challenges faced by community banks. The discussion of community banking policy issues at Committee meetings in 2011, as well as Committee members’ advice and suggestions on improvements to the regulatory and supervisory process presented at the meetings, contributed to the FDIC’s consideration of a number of community bank initiatives, including a conference on the future of community banking and regional community bank roundtables, research into community banking history and models, and looking at ways the agency might streamline the supervisory process. In response to Committee members’ suggestions on providing clear guidance on the applicability of rules and regulations to community banks, the FDIC, in 2011, began providing simple community bank applicability statements, which are prominently featured on Financial Institution Letters that distribute new rules to banks.
