- The Arts and Artifacts Indemnity Panel reviews and advises the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities with respect
to: (1) policy matters; (2) applications for federal indemnity; (3) valuations, adequacy of packing, shipping, and security
arrangements, and the cultural, historical, educational and scientific significance of the objects to be indemnified; and
(4) claims submitted for payment under the Act.The Federal Council is authorized to make indemnity agreements to cover loss
or damage for a single exhibition up to $600,000,000 with an aggregate amount of agreements not to exceed $8,000,000,000 at
any one time. Exhibitions that may be indemnified are: works of art, including tapestries, paintings, sculpture, folk art,
graphics and craft arts; manuscripts, rare documents, books and other printed or published materials; other artifiacts; photographs,
motion pictures, or audio and video tape.
