1: Recommandations
As highlighted in Executive Order 13555, “the future of the United States is inextricably linked to the future of the Hispanic
community.” While recognizing that the Hispanic community has “had a profound and positive impact on our country,” Hispanic
students are “facing educational challenges of crises proportions.” For example, an estimated fifty percent of Hispanic students
earn their high school diploma on time, and only twelve percent of Hispanic adults have a bachelor’s degree. These are only
some of the challenges facing the Hispanic community. With Hispanic students representing the largest minority group of all
pre-K-12 students in our public schools, their academic success remains critical to the future of our country. The breadth
and depth of knowledge, expertise, and commitment of each member of the Advisory Commission will prove essential and necessary
in advising the President and the Secretary on how best to improve the educational attainment and outcomes of Hispanic students.
