1: Recommandations
While it would be possible to get advice on the Institute's operations from other sources, a standing advisory committee benefits
the Institute in a number of ways. First, it provides a dependable source of advice that would be hard to replicate from an
ad hoc group of individuals. Many of the Institute's projects are complex, multi-year efforts. Having sustained advice from
a knowledgeable group is critical to the success of these projects. The diverse backgrounds of the Institute's Board also
ensures that the Institute does not leave out a segment of the literacy community in its plans and strengthens its ties to
all groups that can benefit from its work. And lastly, the Institute benefits from having a standing Advisory Board because
members are more likely to dedicate their time to Institute matters than individuals without such an affiliation.
