- Mission [1]
- The Council was created in 1972 under the Indian Education Act to advise the Secretary of Education on the administration
of all education programs benefiting Indian children and adults as well as funding levels for those programs. The No Child
Left Behind Act of 2001 amends the Indian education programs as Title VII, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Act. The
NACIE members are from different tribes and geographic locations of the country and they represent the diverse needs and interests
of American Indian and Alaska Native people. All the members support the initiatives of No Child Left Behind for the Indian
communities.
