- Mission [1]
- The U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) core mission emphasizes the national interest in safe and efficient transportation.
To support that mission, the DOT Secretary challenged the Marine Transportation System National Advisory Council (MTSNAC)
to find water-based solutions to our national transportation congestion problems and to begin the possible development of
various MTS proposals. The MTSNAC will begin to develop strategies to identify impediments to the expansion of the Nation's
Marine Highways and accommodate the Nation's projected trade growth over the next two decades. These strategies will link
ports to regional freight corridors, reduce congestion near our ports, and promote environmental stewardship. The MTSNAC supports
DOT's strategic plan by addressing the issues of safety, mobility, global connectivity, environmental stewardship, and security.
The MTSNAC works with stakeholders around the country to address our marine transportation system's capacity, productivity,
and overall security.
