- The group was chartered in FY 2007 and members were first appointed in early 2008, second generation appointed in July 2010.
The NEMSAC is comprised of representatives of the many sectors of EMS and they provide advice and recommendations to DOT/NHTSA
in carrying out its work on improving Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and post crash care. NEMSAC has produced multiple recommendations
and several very comprehensive reports on issues related to a "Culture of Safety" in EMS (both provider and patient safety),
the role of EMS in Healthcare Reform, need for guidelines regarding "Mode of Transport", including issues related to helicopter
EMS transport, and several recommendations regarding appropriate reimbursement of EMS. NHTSA awarded the "EMS Culture of Safety"
Project to ACEP in 2010, based on NEMSAC recommendation.
