  • Mission [1]
    • In the past year, OSAC has supported the Department’s mission and strategic plan by developing soft target initiatives and strategic partnerships to increase private sector awareness in these challenging times of operating abroad. OSAC partnered with the International Security Management Association (ISMA) to host a regional security conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, focusing on the Middle East region with over 200 participants. Some of the highlighted events that OSAC supported in the past year included college and university health, safety, and security seminars; Mexico: security challenges impacting private sector operations; joint OSAC/U.S. Department of Commerce corporate espionage event; maritime security conference; roundtable discussions on right wing extremism in Europe, evacuations, and civil unrest; the Pan American Games, and NGO security conferences. As a result of the situation in the Middle East, known as the “Arab Spring” a recommendation from OSAC was made to host a conference on best practices for crisis management and evacuation. This was accomplished in July with 200 participants and further coordination to produce a White Paper that will be available to all OSAC constituents in November. Also, OSAC initiated a series of public/private sector overseas visits to encourage regional managers to support the country council program and share security-related information. This year, the visits included Iraq, Mexico, and Brazil. OSAC continues to explore emerging trends in collaboration while leveraging changes in the style and methods of communication with the private sector and supporting their security issues.
