- Mission [1]
- The Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council supports the mission of the Department and the Service through the activities
and projects that it undertakes annually. Its purpose is to advise the Secretary of the Interior and the Director of the Fish
and Wildlife Service about aquatic conservation endeavors that benefit recreational fishery resources and recreational boating
and that encourage partnerships among industry, the public, and government. All of the activities of the Council focus on
the conservation and responsible use of the Nation's aquatic resources. Examples of current work highlight this focus, including
helping provide public boating access through recommending project funding through the Boating Infrastructure Grant Program;
continuing to monitor and offer advice to the Service's Fisheries Program that aides in efforts to conserve fishery resources
and offer fishing and boating opportunities for the American public; recommending ways to improve the Service-managed Boating
Access, Clean Vessel Act and Boating Infrastructure Grant Programs; and providing recommendations to the Department and the
Service on ways to increase participation in outdoor recreation. Efforts such as these aid in maintaining Service accountability
to its stakeholders and partners and assists the Department and the Service in their conservation and public use missions.
