- The Committee independently evaluates Office of Nuclear Energy's programs' effectiveness and directions, proposing to the
Assistent Secretary, as warranted, new programs or changes in emphasis or direction of existing programs. Subcommittees examine
relevant issues in the area of nuclear technology research and development that are proposed either by the Director or by
the Committee itself. Standing subcommittees also review, on a periodic basis, how effectively the Office's programs perform
against the programs' own stated goals and requirements imposed from the outside.
