- Establishment of the Electricity Advisory Committee was necessary to assist OE in its mandate to implement the Energy Policy
Act of 2005, to implement provisions of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, and to modernize the nation’s electricity
delivery infrastructure. The EAC meets the requirements of the Federal Advisory Committee Act and advises OE on a number of
subjects involving specific technical expertise that does not exist within the Department.The EAC will conduct the following
activities:A. Advise on electricity reliability, security and policy issues of concern tothe Department of Energy.B. Periodically
review and make recommendations on DOE electricityprograms and initiatives, including electricity-related R&D programs.C.
Advise on current and future capacity of the electricity system.D. Identify emerging issues related to capacity, production,
delivery,reliability, security and utility regulation, and make recommendations ifappropriate concerning DOE policy and initiatives.E.
Advise on coordination between DOE, State, regional officials, and theprivate sector on matters affecting electricity supply,
demand, andreliability.F. Advise on the coordination between Federal, State, and utility industryauthorities in the event
of supply disruption or other emergencies relatedto electricity transmission, generation, and distribution.
