    • The mission of the National Defense University is to prepare military and civilian leaders from the United States and other countries to evaluate national and international security challenges through multi-disciplinary educational and research programs, professional exchanges and outreach. The Board provides advice and guidance to the university leadership in support of its education, research, and outreach missions. The Board participated in extensive review and critique of the university’s strategic planning initiative,a living document currently spanning the period 2011-2017:Vision: The pre-eminent Federal institution for education, research, and outreach in national and international security.
